ARL Library Assessment Conference, Pentagon City October 30- November 3, 2016

First lesson, think hard about registering for both a pre and post conference workshop.  I attended a pre-conference workshop on Tableau.  It was interesting, but due to the nature of the room set up, it was hard to keep up with the instructors if you were looking at your screen and looking at their's simultaneously.  But useful. 

The sessions themselves were interesting, but in my opinion, not as good as previous years.  Particularly interesting was Nisa Bakkalbasi's talk on using Gephi to analyze communication trends in her library at Colombia.  Also it was interesting to hear Carrick Enterprises talk on their new Information Literacy test (based on the new Frames). 

The post -conference workshop was the highlight for me this year.  Kim Duckett (Duke) and Joan Lippencott (CNI) held a fast-paced and highly interactive workshop on assessment in library spaces.  They tackled both pre-occupancy and post-occupancy considerations for library buildings. 

And DC is always pretty in the fall.
